Our tear-out and replacement process

  1. Free consultation. We look at what failed and why, so the new slab does not repeat it.
  2. Break out and haul away. We remove the old concrete and take it off site.
  3. Fix the subgrade. Most replacements need some of the soil under the old slab removed and replaced with crushed gravel or recycled concrete, compacted well to limit movement.
  4. Form, reinforce and pour. Residential concrete is typically poured 4 inches thick with a 4,000 PSI mix, and we recommend steel or fiberglass rebar for added strength.
  5. Finish and cut joints. Broom finish or stamped and colored concrete, with control joints placed to manage cracking.

What does concrete removal and replacement cost?

It depends on the size, thickness, access and how much base material has to be replaced. As a guide, driveway replacement typically runs $12.50 to $13.50 per square foot and garage slabs about $14 per square foot. Areas that are hard to reach may need a concrete pump, which starts at $450.

How long does it take?

Many driveways are torn out and poured in a day. Most residential projects take 2 to 4 days.

Can you replace just one section?

Often, yes. We will tell you honestly whether a partial replacement will hold up or whether the whole slab needs to go.
